Doing business on a yacht
Hi!
I’m writing this from the Azores. We’re anchored about five miles out from the land, which means we can enjoy the sun and atmos without any of those stupid locals bothering us. We did have a few swim up to the yacht, but they were dealt with by Hetherington and a his trusty harpoon.
I hate the thing of being in demand all the time; meetings and conferences and strategy planning. Being in demand is wearing and you simply have to chuck it all in sometimes and get away. I’m out of the loop. Apart from the satellite connection, five cell phones, wifi and intership communication with the supply vessels, I am completely uncontactable.
It’s so relaxing here. Athena, Chloee, Sabrina, Cassie and Jo all love being on these little cruises, just relying on our own sailing skills with only 39 staff, 16 crew, five advisors, security guards and valets. 500 foot of yacht is a lot to manage. It’s exhausting ordering them around, so now I have Lucas, who orders them around for me so I can relax on the fourth deck. Obviously I communicate with him through subordinates. Sometimes the message gets garbled and Lucas receives the wrong instruction. For instance an argument with my beloved Sonia got out of hand, and I asked (through the chain of command) Lucas to sort her out. I miss my wife but by the time I had noticed she’d been in the sea five days.
It’s a balmy midday sun off the coast of Portugal. I was in the second floor sauna when Esmee, my east european fund manager came in. She was panicked that the emerald mine was halting it’s work due to the workers being unhappy with the pay and conditions. They were no longer happy with no pay and bad conditions. This is the problem with working people. They don’t want to work. You have to deal with these things if you want to run a business. You have to care what happens. I instruct Esmee accordingly.
The news is full of an explosion in a emerald mine, curiously one I sold yesterday afternoon. I can’t imagine what those poor people are going through, so I don’t bother.
